High Court Orders Interest for Delayed Retiral Benefits to Cop

High Court Orders Interest for Delayed Retiral Benefits to Cop

Balwinder Singh was a police officer in Punjab who was dismissed shortly before he was due to retire.

This happened after a person escaped from police custody.

Singh was later reinstated and treated as retired from December 31, 2017.

A police inquiry found him innocent, and a trial court later acquitted him.

However, his pension money and gratuity were not paid for more than three years.

The delayed amount totaled about Rs 13.81 lakh.

Singh asked the court for interest because the payment was late.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court agreed that the delay was not his fault.

It ordered the authorities to pay 7% yearly interest on the delayed money.
