China Intensifies Military Pressure on Taiwan in May
Imagine Taiwan is an island, and China wants to be in charge of it.
In May, China sent many ships and planes, like a show of force, near Taiwan.
These included big ships and fighter jets.
Some ships did training in the ocean.
They were trying to show Taiwan that China is strong and wants control.
These actions are part of a larger plan to pressure Taiwan.
The goal is for Taiwan to accept China's control.
China deployed approximately 70 warships and 75 aircraft near Taiwan in May.
These deployments included aircraft carrier strike groups and occurred in waters north and south of Taiwan.
Some Chinese vessels conducted long-range training exercises in the Western Pacific Ocean.
30 undocumented Chinese ships were spotted near Taiwan's Penghu archipelago.
The actions are viewed as part of China's efforts to exert pressure and control over Taiwan.
