Premiumisation lifts Indian liquor firms' June quarter revenue growth

Premiumisation lifts Indian liquor firms' June quarter revenue growth

Some companies in India that make drinks for grown-ups, like whisky and beer, had a very good three months this year.

That is because many people in India now want fancier, more expensive drinks instead of cheap ones.

This is called 'premiumisation.'

Big drink companies like United Spirits and Radico Khaitan sold a lot more of their special brands, such as Johnnie Walker and Rampur whisky.

Radico Khaitan made its best-ever sales and profits in these three months.

United Spirits also made a lot more money.

The biggest beer company, United Breweries, sold 17 percent more of its premium beers, but its profit went down because costs were higher.

One company named Tilaknagar more than doubled its sales after buying a whisky brand called Imperial Blue.

A wine company called Sula Vineyards grew a little as well.

Overall, selling premium drinks is helping Indian liquor companies grow even when costs are high.
