U.S. Says It Disabled Cargo Ship Attempting Iran Blockade

The U.S. military says it stopped a cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman.

The ship was called the M/V Ocean Molica, also known as the Arika Sun.

CENTCOM said the ship had left an Iranian port.

It said the crew tried to pass through waters covered by a naval blockade and ignored warnings.

A U.S. fighter jet struck the back of the ship.

CENTCOM said the strike stopped the ship’s engine from working, but nobody on board was hurt.

Reuters could not immediately reach the ship’s operator for comment.

CENTCOM told other ships in the area to follow warnings and contact U.S. naval forces.

The report also said fewer ships were passing through the Strait of Hormuz after recent attacks on tankers.
