New Report Aims to Boost Village Development in India
Imagine a report card for villages (Gram Panchayats) to see how well they're doing in different areas like health and education.
This report card is called the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI).
The government collected lots of data from over 200,000 villages and put it all together.
This helps villages see where they are doing well and where they need to improve.
The report card is meant to be easy to understand, even for village leaders.
The goal is to help villages get better by 2030.
This report helps them use funds and resources effectively.
The Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) Baseline Report 2022-23 was released in April 2025 by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
PAI is a composite index based on 435 unique local indicators and 566 data points across nine themes aligned with Sustainable Development Goals.
The PAI aims to help Gram Panchayats understand their standing related to Sustainable Development Goals and what actions are needed.
Uttar Pradesh provided data for only 40% of its Gram Panchayats, raising concerns about the state of development in the region.
The PAI portal is designed to be useful for officials, and could benefit MPs and MLAs in making specific interventions.
