Paytm's Turnaround: Record Profit Marks Recovery from Regulatory Shock
Paytm is a company in India that helps people pay for things using their phones.
A few years ago, the government asked Paytm to change some of its rules, and that was a very hard time for the company.
Now, Paytm says that difficult time is over.
In the three months ending June 2026, Paytm earned more money than it ever had before in one quarter.
It also started making a profit instead of burning cash.
More shopkeepers and customers are using Paytm to pay every day.
Paytm also started using a smart computer program called artificial intelligence to handle customer phone calls, which saves a lot of money.
The company's leader says the past is behind them and they are ready to grow again.
Paytm reported Q1 FY27 revenue of ₹2,448 crore, up 28% year-on-year, with net profit of ₹220 crore.
EBITDA rose 182% to a record ₹203 crore, taking the margin to 8%.
Merchant GMV grew 31% to ₹7.1 lakh crore, while consumer UPI payment value jumped 45% against roughly 20% for the industry.
Financial services distribution revenue rose 45% to ₹814 crore, with more than 50% of merchant loan disbursements going to repeat borrowers.
Founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma said Paytm had crossed its January 2024 levels on every key metric and now holds ₹13,529 crore in cash.
