How to Grow Chickpeas at Home with Kids
Imagine a tiny chickpea seed!
You can grow your own yummy chickpeas at home with a little help from grown-ups.
First, pick good seeds and let them swim in water for a bit to get ready.
Then, find a super sunny spot, either in the ground or in a big pot.
You'll need special dirt that has food for the plant and lets extra water drain out.
Gently tuck the seeds into the dirt, not too deep, and give them a drink of water.
It's important to keep the dirt a little bit wet, like a wrung-out sponge, but not too soggy!
The sun will help the seeds wake up and start growing little stems and leaves.
As they get bigger, they might need a little stick to help them stand up tall.
After a few months, you'll see little green pods, and inside those are more chickpeas!
It's like magic, and you grew it yourself by being patient and taking care of your plants.
Growing chickpeas at home can be a magical and educational experience for children, teaching care and patience.
Select healthy, firm chickpea seeds and soak them in water for 8-12 hours to aid germination.
Chickpeas need a sunny location (6-8 hours daily) and rich, well-drained soil, planted in containers at least 30 cm deep or in garden beds.
Plant seeds 2-3 cm deep and 20 cm apart, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Support growing stems with stakes or trellises, and harvest the pods after 3-4 months when they turn golden brown.
