BJP Plans Clean Candidate Selection for Kolkata Civic Polls
The BJP is preparing to choose candidates for Kolkata’s local elections.
It plans to write rules, called an SOP, for choosing them.
The party says it wants candidates who are seen as honest and have no corruption allegations.
Being connected to the BJP for a long time may also help someone become a candidate.
Names may first come from local party workers before senior leaders make the final choices.
The BJP believes it performed strongly in many areas during the Assembly elections.
It plans to criticise Trinamool councillors by comparing their promises with their work.
The party has not yet decided whether to name a mayoral candidate before or after the election.
The BJP will create an SOP for selecting candidates in Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections.
Candidates may be drawn from all social sections and must have clean images, while party association will also matter.
The Kolkata and Howrah civic election committees are headed by Sukanta Majumdar and Rahul Sinha, respectively.
The reorganised KMC is expected to have 209 wards after delimitation, compared with 144 previously.
The BJP plans chargesheets against about 134 Trinamool councillors and has not decided on a mayoral face.
