Meghalaya Cabinet approves dedicated Paper VI on state for MCS exam
The government of Meghalaya, a state in India, made an important decision.
They decided that people who want to become government officers must learn more about their own state.
These people take a big test called the Meghalaya Civil Service exam.
Soon, the test will include a new section called Paper VI.
This paper will ask questions about Meghalaya's history, culture, traditions, society and economy.
The Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, said this will help officers understand the state better.
A group of experts led by Professor David Syiemlieh came up with the idea.
The leaders approved the plan at a meeting on Thursday.
The new paper will be added after a few more steps are completed.
This way, future officers will know all about Meghalaya before they start their jobs.
The Meghalaya Cabinet approved recommendations from an expert committee led by David Syiemlieh for a dedicated state paper in the MCS competitive examination.
The proposed Paper VI will focus exclusively on Meghalaya, covering its history, culture, traditional institutions and systems, society and economy.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the objective is to ensure MCS officers possess a deeper understanding of the state's unique social, cultural and economic context.
The Cabinet approved the proposal during its meeting on Thursday, with further procedural steps possibly required before implementation.
Reports differ on Syiemlieh's former role: one identifies him as a former chairman of the University Grants Commission, while another says he is a former UPSC Chairman.
