Assam Begins Eviction Drive in Golaghat Forest Area
The Assam government is removing people from a forest area because they believe they are living there illegally.
The government is using bulldozers and other tools to clear the area.
They have told about 1,500 families to leave.
Many of the families are upset because they had schools, electricity and water supply through the government and they were brought to that place earlier to protect it.
The government says it's part of reclaiming the land.
Assam government is conducting an eviction drive in Golaghat district to clear alleged encroachments.
The drive targets approximately 11,000 bighas (3,600 acres) of forest land in the Rengma Reserve Forest.
Around 1,500 families received eviction notices; some have already left their homes.
Affected families claim they were settled there by previous governments and had access to utilities.
The Assam government stated the eviction is part of a broader effort to reclaim forest land.
