Practical Magic 2 Targets Strong Global Fall Box Office Opening
Practical Magic 2 is a new movie about a family of witches.
It continues the story from the 1998 film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.
Warner Bros.
expects it to make between $58 million and $63 million around the world in its first weekend.
About $40 million of that could come from North America.
The rest is expected to come from other countries.
Many older fans and younger women are interested in seeing the sequel.
However, critics have given the movie low scores so far.
The original movie was also not popular with critics when it was released.
Several other movies and a concert documentary will compete for moviegoers this weekend.
Warner Bros. projects Practical Magic 2 will open to $58 million-$63 million worldwide.
The sequel is expected to earn about $40 million domestically and $18 million-$23 million overseas.
The film will open in 77 territories, including France, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Strong interest among women over 25 and younger female fans could push the sequel above current projections.
Other weekend releases include Hope, Runner, The Uprising and Oasis: Don’t Look Back at Anger.
