Odisha Raises Minimum Daily Wages by Rs 6 Across Categories
Odisha has raised the minimum daily pay for four groups of workers.
Each group gets Rs 6 more per day.
The new rates started on October 1.
The state announced the change in a notice on October 8.
The increase is linked to a measure of changing prices for industrial workers.
That measure rose from 147.50 to 149.80 over six months.
The government adjusts this allowance twice a year.
The extra money is meant to help workers cope with rising living costs, but the increase is small.
Odisha increased minimum daily wages by Rs 6 for four worker categories, effective October 1.
Unskilled workers’ daily wage rose from Rs 472 to Rs 478.
Semi-skilled workers will receive Rs 528, while skilled and highly skilled workers will receive Rs 578 and Rs 628.
A Labour Commissioner’s office notification issued October 8 linked the change to an additional Variable Dearness Allowance.
The revision followed a 2.30-point rise in the industrial workers’ Consumer Price Index over six months.
