Retired IAF Sergeant, Family Arrested After Satya Niketan Collapse

A five-storey building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan was being used as a paying guest home for students.

It collapsed on September 6 while work was reportedly happening in the basement.

Seven people died, and 12 people were rescued.

Police arrested Hariram Gupta, his wife Urmila and their son Mahesh.

The property was registered in Urmila’s name, while police say Hariram and Mahesh helped manage the paying guest accommodation.

Investigators are checking whether renovation work, water in the basement or the building’s condition helped cause the collapse.

They are also examining the rental agreement and the labour contractor’s role.

Officials have ordered several investigations into the tragedy and the safety of other paying guest buildings.
