Jorhat contractor arrested for highway project irregularities
A man named Mukesh Jalan, who owns a construction company, was arrested in Guwahati.
He is accused of not paying the people who worked for him on a big road project in Jorhat.
These workers say he owes them a lot of money and left the project unfinished.
The police are investigating, and some student groups have been protesting about the bad work and delays on this important road for years.
The road is supposed to be a four-lane highway, but there have been many problems with how it's being built.
Mukesh Jalan, owner of Sadguru Engineering, was arrested for financial irregularities in the NH 715 project.
Sub-contractors allege Jalan owes them Rs 4 crore and abandoned the project site.
The arrest followed an FIR filed at Teok police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Despite meetings to resolve the issue, the sub-contractors' dues remained unpaid.
Student bodies have been protesting for years against project delays and poor work quality.
