US and Canada Prepare for Prolonged Trade Dispute

The United States and Canada are arguing about trade.

The United States has placed new taxes, called tariffs, on some Canadian goods.

These tariffs affect about 5% of everything Canada sells to the United States.

Canada plans to place tariffs on some American goods in response.

Those measures would affect about 6% of U.S. exports to Canada.

For now, the tariffs cover a relatively small part of trade between the countries.

The disagreement could become bigger if more tariffs are added.

Both countries are expected to manage the current costs for at least some time.
