Central Government Employees Gain OPS Benefits Under New Pension Scheme
The government is making changes to the pension system for its employees.
If a government employee dies or becomes seriously ill, their family will get money from the old pension plan, even if the employee was in a new plan.
The government is also letting employees switch between pension plans, so they can choose what's best for them.
This change also means that employees in the new plan will get the same retirement and death benefits as those in the old plan.
This is to make sure everyone is treated fairly.
Central government employees switching from NPS can access OPS benefits in specific cases.
The clarification ensures family of deceased employees or those disabled receive OPS benefits.
IAS, IPS, and IFS officers under NPS were previously given a one-time option to choose OPS.
Employees under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) can now avail retirement and death gratuity.
The UPS system will be implemented from April 1, 2025, giving NPS employees an option.
