Meta India Head Booked Over Morphed Posts Targeting PM Modi
A man named Arun Srinivas, who runs Meta in India, was booked by police in Hyderabad.
Police say he let fake videos and pictures of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, spread on Facebook and Instagram.
Two people, S Aravind Reddy and T Saikiran Goud, said they saw these fake posts and thought they could make people angry or confused.
The police are looking into who made the posts and how they were shared.
Meta said it will check its posts more carefully and will let senior staff look at any posts about the Prime Minister.
Hyderabad cybercrime police registered FIRs against Meta India head Arun Srinivas and operators of several Facebook/Instagram accounts over alleged morphed content targeting PM Narendra Modi during CJP protests.
Complaints filed by BJP supporters S Aravind Reddy and T Saikiran Goud claim the posts were digitally altered, obscene, and could incite hatred or threaten national security.
The cases invoke Sections 66(C), 67 of IT Act and Sections 353(2), 336(4) of BNS, addressing identity theft, obscene material, and public mischief.
Meta has issued a notice to the police, is cooperating, and has outlined safeguards for PM Modi’s posts, with senior officials to vet such content.
The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking to trace account operators and obtain evidence from Meta.
