Chennai Woman’s Death Prompts Two Theories in Assembly

M Kalavathi was walking toward a metro station in Chennai at night.

At about 10:20 p.m., she fell into roughly 1.5 feet of stagnant water.

She died in the incident.

Early reports said an uncovered pit for stormwater drain work caused the fall.

The Greater Chennai Corporation later said no drain work was happening there.

This created two different explanations of what happened.

The case was discussed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

The available reports do not settle which explanation is correct.
