Kerala's Power Crisis Deepens as Ashok Challenges Vijayan

Kerala's Power Crisis Deepens as Ashok Challenges Vijayan

Kerala is facing power shortages, especially at night.

Leaders are arguing about why this happened.

A long-term agreement to buy 465 megawatts of electricity was cancelled during the previous LDF government.

Pinarayi Vijayan says the agreement had legal problems and blames an earlier UDF government.

He also says his government handled high electricity demand by buying more power and swapping electricity with other states.

Former KSEB chief B. Ashok says officials should not be blamed for the agreement issue.

Ashok says the bigger problem is poor long-term planning and not having enough storage for daytime renewable energy.

Vijayan has accused the UDF government of creating a shortage to weaken KSEB and encourage privatisation.

Their disagreement is now both a technical argument about electricity and a political personal dispute.
