Some people in a city called Ranchi were very upset because they wanted jobs.

They started a protest, which is a way of showing leaders that they are not happy.

One of the protesters, a man named Devendra Nath Mahto, went on a hunger strike by refusing to eat food.

A hunger strike is when someone stops eating to show how serious they are about a problem.

Another person named Wangchuk called Mahto on the phone to talk to him.

Wangchuk said that not drinking water is like hurting yourself on purpose.

After the call, Mahto agreed to drink water and eat salt.

But he still will not eat food until the government listens to the protesters.

Many students and people looking for jobs have joined the protest.

The protest started in the late part of July.
