Trump Orders Invasion Plans for Greenland
President Donald Trump has asked his special forces to make a plan to invade Greenland.
He thinks Greenland is very important for the US because of its location and the valuable things under the ground.
But the military leaders, Denmark, and the people of Greenland are against this idea.
They say it's not legal and would be very disrespectful.
Trump thinks that if the US doesn't take control, Russia or China might.
There's already a US base in Greenland, but Trump wants more control.
The Danish Prime Minister says this idea is silly and would cause big problems.
The people of Greenland say they don't want to be part of the US or Denmark; they want to be independent.
Denmark is preparing to defend Greenland, but it's not clear if they can stop the US if they try to take it.
President Donald Trump ordered the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to prepare an invasion plan for Greenland.
Senior military leaders, Denmark, and Greenlanders strongly oppose the plan, citing legality, lack of Congressional support, and respect for Greenlandic sovereignty.
The plan is motivated by Greenland's strategic importance and potential Russian or Chinese influence, as well as US national security concerns.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen strongly opposes the idea, calling it absurd and disrespectful to Greenlandic sovereignty, and has warned that an American takeover would mark the end of NATO.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark and has a US base, Pituffik Space Base (Thule), under a 1951 treaty, with Greenlanders expressing a desire for independence.
