Tata Sons Board Approves Listing, Reappoints Chandrasekaran Amid Trusts Dispute

Tata Sons Board Approves Listing, Reappoints Chandrasekaran Amid Trusts Dispute

Tata Sons is the company at the top of many Tata businesses.

Its board approved a plan to prepare the company for a public listing, which means selling shares to investors.

The board also asked N Chandrasekaran to remain chairman for five more years.

Chandrasekaran had previously said he would not seek another term.

Tata Trusts owns about 66% of Tata Sons and says the reappointment decision was invalid.

Tata Trusts also worries that a listing could reduce its control.

Shapoorji Pallonji Group owns about 18.4% and supports a listing because it could make its investment easier to sell or value.

The Reserve Bank of India rejected Tata Sons’ request to avoid listing, so the company said it would seek regulatory guidance.
