Surat Fish Market Signboard Covered Amid PM Modi Naming Row

Surat Fish Market Signboard Covered Amid PM Modi Naming Row

A new fish market in Surat had a sign using Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name and picture.

Some local people and opposition members objected to the sign.

They said the city had not officially approved the name.

They also questioned whether the prime minister’s name should be used for a non-vegetarian market.

City officials inspected the site after the disagreement grew.

The market group then covered the sign with a white cloth.

The cloth will stay there while the city considers the request.

Market representatives say the name would honor government help for the fishing community.

They have now asked the municipal committee to decide the matter officially.
