Delhi HC Slaps Costs on Customs for Harassing Sex Toy Importers
The Delhi High Court scolded the Customs Department and made them pay a fine of Rs 25,000, which will be taken from the salary of an assistant commissioner.
This was because the Customs Department was being unfair to some companies that import certain products, like body massagers, which some people think are actually sex toys.
The court said the Customs Department was being mean and causing trouble for no good reason, especially since other companies were allowed to import similar products without any problems.
The court also told the Customs Department to make a clear rule about whether these products can be imported or not, so everyone is treated fairly.
Delhi High Court imposed Rs 25,000 cost on Customs Department for harassing importers of sex toys.
Customs Department had seized products from Techsync and M/s Debanjan Impex, claiming they were misdeclared as body massagers.
Court noted that other companies, including Reckitt Benckiser, were allowed to import similar products without objection.
Court directed CBIC to create a uniform policy on the import of such products.
Customs Department argued that the products required licenses and certificates, which the companies failed to provide.
