Himachal Pradesh Defends Sewage Treatment Gap Before NGT
The Himachal Pradesh government told the National Green Tribunal (NGT) about how it handles sewage and trash.
They said that even though some towns don't have good sewage systems, the existing treatment plants can handle the waste they receive.
The government explained that the difference between how much sewage they expected to treat and how much they actually treated was because not all houses are connected to the sewer systems, not because of lack of treatment facilities.
They are also improving how they deal with trash by treating most of it and sending the rest to cement plants.
Himachal Pradesh submitted a compliance report to the NGT regarding sewage and solid waste management.
The report addresses the 9.601 MLD sewage treatment gap highlighted by the NGT.
The state attributes the gap to lower-than-projected sewage inflow, not treatment capacity.
20 ULBs lack sewerage facilities, while 7 have inadequate ones.
The state is also updating the NGT on solid waste management progress.
