West Burdwan Caps Sand Prices at Rs 1,200 Per Tractor

They set the price of one tractor load at Rs 1,200.
The delivery cost can still change depending on how far the sand travels.
Sand had become very expensive after police acted against illegal mining.
The high prices stopped some construction work and reduced jobs for workers.
Officials will place monitors at all 15 licensed sand ghats.
Police are also watching for illegal sellers and small smuggling operations.
Storage hubs and CCTV cameras are planned to improve supply and prevent black-marketing.
Some sand leaseholders are worried that the fixed price may reduce their profits.
