Mayawati Frees Akash Anand From BSP After Siddharth Retirement
Mayawati leads a political party called the BSP.
She announced that her nephew, Akash Anand, was no longer part of the party.
This happened soon after Akash’s father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, said he was leaving politics and social work.
Mayawati had said Siddharth should retire before the party considered restoring Akash’s responsibilities.
After Siddharth retired, Mayawati still decided to release Akash from the BSP.
She said Akash seemed more focused on family relationships than on the party.
She also pointed to his failure to repost one of her messages on X. Siddharth said he had not influenced Akash and had never worked against the BSP.
The changes came as the party prepares for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
BSP chief Mayawati announced on September 10, 2026, that her nephew Akash Anand was completely freed from the party.
The decision came shortly after Anand’s father-in-law and former Rajya Sabha member Ashok Siddharth announced his retirement from political and social life.
Mayawati said Anand’s personal and family ties appeared to outweigh his political career and commitment to the BSP.
Anand had already been removed as BSP national coordinator and relieved of key responsibilities on September 3.
Siddharth said he had remained loyal to the BSP for 35 years and denied influencing Anand or working against the party.
