Mayawati Expels Akash Anand After Father-in-Law Retires
"Completely Freed": Mayawati Sacks Nephew Akash Anand From Party In Latest Twist · NDTV

Mayawati leads the Bahujan Samaj Party, or BSP.

She said her nephew Akash Anand was no longer part of the party.

This happened after Anand’s father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, announced that he was retiring from politics and social life.

Mayawati had said Siddharth’s retirement was needed before Anand could possibly regain party responsibilities.

She said family relationships appeared to be more important to them than the BSP’s goals.

Siddharth disagreed with the accusations and said he had always supported Mayawati and the party.

He also said he had not met or advised Anand for several months.

The BSP had already removed Anand from a senior organisational position earlier.

Quotes

Ashok Siddharth

Former BSP Rajya Sabha member and Mayawati’s relative by marriage

“If Akash Anand cares less about the true interests of the party and the movement and about his own career connected to it and more about attachments to relationships, then it is natural for the question to arise: How can he, with a double mind, possibly do good for the BSP party and the movement?”
NDTV
“For this reason, the party leadership deems it best that, just as he was previously relieved of all key responsibilities associated with the crucial post of National Convener on September 3, 2026, he should now be completely freed from the party as well, effective immediately.”
