India Post's DIGIPIN to Become Self-Financing Model
The Indian government wants DIGIPIN, a digital address system, to start making its own money.
The Minister of State for Telecommunications asked the post office to figure out how to do this to prevent losing money and to provide better service.
The DIGIPIN system, made with help from IIT Hyderabad and ISRO, uses a special code for finding places and will help with things like delivering mail and helping in emergencies.
This is also part of making India more digital and improving postal services.
Minister asks Department of Posts to transition DIGIPIN to a self-financing model.
The goal is to prevent revenue loss.
DIGIPIN aligns with Digital India and postal reform goals.
DIGIPIN is an open-source, geo-coded digital address system.
The postal department launched 'Know Your DIGIPIN' on May 27.
