Delhi Plans Free Rooftop Solar Panels for 2.3 Lakh Families

The Delhi government wants more families to use solar power on their rooftops.

It plans to give free solar systems to more than 2.30 lakh families in the first stage.

Families that use up to 400 electricity units each month can receive systems of up to 3 kW.

The central government and Delhi government will together pay subsidies of up to Rs.

1.56 lakh.

People must register through a government portal, and applications will be handled in the order they arrive.

Solar panels can reduce the amount of electricity families need to buy.

Some households may also earn money by selling extra electricity to power companies.

Officials say the plan is meant to overcome the high starting cost and other difficulties that have slowed rooftop solar use in Delhi.
