Shubman Gill’s Colombo Test Offers Defining Captaincy Opportunity
Shubman Gill is leading India in a Test cricket series against Sri Lanka.
India won the first Test at Galle, so another victory in Colombo would win the series.
Gill has been making bold choices as captain.
He trusted Manav Suthar, who took 10 wickets in the match.
He also chose Prasidh Krishna, who bowled well and took important wickets.
These decisions suggest Gill is learning how to build his own style of leadership.
Some people still wonder how much of his strategy comes from coach Gautam Gambhir.
Winning in Colombo would show that Gill’s promising captaincy is becoming more consistent.
Shubman Gill’s India can seal the series against Sri Lanka in Sunday’s second Test at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club.
Gill’s captaincy at Galle was marked by attacking bowling changes, positive field placements and trust in his players.
Manav Suthar took 10 wickets on his first Test outside India after being selected ahead of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.
Prasidh Krishna repaid Gill’s backing with three wickets and a disciplined second-innings spell at Galle.
A 2-0 series win would give Gill his first significant overseas success as Test captain, though questions about his leadership identity remain.
