Beijing to Ban Drone Possession Under New Security Rules

Beijing to Ban Drone Possession Under New Security Rules

Beijing is making a new rule about drones.

Starting November 15, people will not be allowed to keep or store drones in the city.

They also will not be allowed to bring drones or drone parts into Beijing.

Flying drones in the city’s airspace will remain forbidden without permission.

Drone owners must get rid of their devices or move them outside the city.

The government may help by paying subsidies, buying back some registered drones, or providing free shipping.

Officials say the rule is needed to protect the capital’s security.

One expert said the ban could also relate to political sensitivity, surveillance, and counter-intelligence concerns.
