WBBSE Imposes ₹5,000 Penalty on 50 Schools
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has told 50 government schools to pay a fine of ₹5,000 for each student whose registration was late.
These schools missed the deadline to register students for the 2026 Madhyamik exam.
The board says this is to make sure students can take the exam and to stop this from happening again.
The schools say they don't have enough money to pay the fine and that the board is being too strict.
The board says they are following the rules and have given schools enough time to register students.
The schools have asked the Chief Minister to help them with this problem.
WBBSE imposed a ₹5,000 penalty per student on 50 government schools for delayed registrations.
The penalty is due to the schools' failure to complete student registrations or rectify data by the deadline.
The board cited a Calcutta High Court order as the basis for the penalty.
Schools argue they face financial constraints and administrative issues, making it difficult to pay the fine.
The board maintains the penalty is necessary to ensure students can take the 2026 Madhyamik exam and to prevent future delays.
