Delhi Police Reject October 10 Protest, Warn of Legal Action

Delhi Police turned down a request to hold a protest on October 10.

The planned demonstration was about the accountability of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Police said the request came too late because their guidelines require 10 days’ notice.

They also said organizers had not followed rules during earlier demonstrations.

Police cited safety and traffic concerns as other reasons for refusing permission.

Section 163 is currently in force in New Delhi and prohibits gatherings and demonstrations, police said.

Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad warned that people who gather unlawfully or damage property could face legal action.

She also said police support peaceful protest but will not tolerate violence.
