Andhra Lawyers Boycott Courts, Protest Police Assault Of Advocate

This story is about a disagreement between lawyers and police in Andhra Pradesh, a state in India.

A junior lawyer named Gautam Raju was stopped by police during a vehicle check.

The lawyers say police held his hands and throat and were rude to him.

The police say he was stopped to show his vehicle papers and that he bit an officer during a fight.

Other lawyers were upset and did not go to court that day.

Instead, they gathered outside the police station and asked the police officer to say sorry.

They sat on the road, which stopped traffic in the area.

Police leaders came to talk with them and calm things down.

The talks continued until late in the evening.
