Gauhati High Court Initiates Suo Motu Case Over Missing Criminal Records of Jailed Inmates
The Gauhati High Court in Assam, India, took action on its own after finding out that the criminal records of four prisoners were missing.
This meant no one knew if they had already served their sentences or not.
The court ordered the trial courts to find or recreate the records and also told the prisoners' lawyers to apply for their release (bail) if the records couldn't be found.
The court also considered the prisoners' long detention and home circumstances for their release.
