Delhi draft electoral roll may delete a third of names

Delhi draft electoral roll may delete a third of names

Delhi is a big city in India where many people live.

Before elections, the government makes a list of everyone who can vote.

This list is called the electoral roll.

The government recently checked the list to make sure it is correct.

This check is called a Special Intensive Revision.

Workers went door to door to collect forms from every voter.

They could only collect forms from about 97 out of every 145 voters.

That means about one out of every three names might be removed from the list.

Names might be removed if someone moved away, passed away, was listed twice, or could not be found.

The new draft list will be published on August 24, and people can ask to fix mistakes before the final list comes out on October 27.
