Umrao Jaan Returns to Theaters: A Look Back at its Legacy
The classic film 'Umrao Jaan', starring Rekha, is coming back to theaters!
The director, Muzaffar Ali, based it on a book about a woman in old India.
He wanted to show the culture of Lucknow.
Rekha worked hard to understand her character.
The director remembers a fun day when Rekha's fans, some with guns, visited the set, and he even used them in the movie.
Ali says his film is different from another movie with a similar theme called 'Pakeezah'.
He's happy the movie is coming back to theaters, where people can experience it together.
Muzaffar Ali's film 'Umrao Jaan' is set for a re-release on June 27th.
Ali was inspired by Mirza Hadi Ruswa's novel 'Umrao Jaan Ada' and wanted to tell a story about Awadh.
Rekha's performance in 'Umrao Jaan' is highly regarded, and Ali appreciated her dedication to the role.
During filming, Rekha's fans, some carrying guns, visited the set and were later included as extras.
Ali distinguishes his film's style and treatment from Kamal Amrohi’s 'Pakeezah'.
