EU gives €1.4 billion frozen Russian asset interest to Ukraine

EU gives €1.4 billion frozen Russian asset interest to Ukraine

Some countries froze money that belongs to Russia's central bank because Russia started a war.

That money is kept safe, and over time it earns extra money, like a piggy bank that grows.

The European Union, a group of many countries in Europe, decided to use the extra money that the frozen money made.

This extra money is about €1.4 billion, which is about $1.6 billion.

The European Union will give this money to Ukraine to help the country.

The money was transferred to the European Union on August 3.

The European Commission announced the plan on Wednesday.

Ukraine can use the help because it is dealing with Russia's invasion.
