AI Slop Floods YouTube Feeds
A recent study by Kapwing found that a lot of videos on YouTube are low-quality and made by artificial intelligence.
These videos are called 'AI slop' and 'brainrot'.
The study looked at 15,000 popular YouTube channels and found that 278 of them only post AI slop videos.
These videos have gotten a huge number of views, over 63 billion, and have 221 million subscribers.
The most popular AI slop channel is called 'Bandar Apna Dost' and is from India.
The study also found that Spain has the largest combined subscriber base for AI slop channels, while South Korea has the highest views for AI slop.
The most-subscribed AI slop channel is a Spanish-language anime-themed channel from the United States.
The study suggests that AI slop is no longer a fringe phenomenon but a structural feature of YouTube's growth.
It also highlights the challenge for YouTube to maintain advertiser trust and brand value when ads appear alongside low-quality, repetitive content.
A study by Kapwing found that 21% to 33% of YouTube feeds consist of AI slop or brainrot videos.
