CPM Leader Apologizes for Communal Remark
A senior leader from the CPI(M) party in India, named Saji Cheriyan, made a statement about recent election results.
He said that in areas where Muslims are the majority, a Muslim party wins, and in Hindu areas, a Hindu party wins.
This made many people upset, including Muslim groups and the Congress party.
They said his words were trying to divide people based on religion.
After many people criticized him, Saji Cheriyan said he was sorry and took back his statement.
He said his words were misunderstood and that he works for everyone, no matter their religion or caste.
The Congress party leader said the CPI(M) is acting like another party that also divides people.
There have been other similar comments from leaders close to the CPI(M) recently.
CPI(M) leader Saji Cheriyan apologized for his communal remark about election results in Kerala.
Cheriyan's statement suggested that parties win based on the religious majority in an area.
Muslim organizations and the Congress party criticized his remarks, demanding his resignation.
Cheriyan withdrew his statement, apologizing and stating his words were misunderstood.
Congress leader V D Satheesan accused the CPI(M) of attempting to divide people for political gain.
