SC Refuses Plea Against Illegal Arrest
The Supreme Court of India said no to a request made by a businessman named Umang Rastogi.
He wanted the court to help him because he said the police in Uttar Pradesh arrested him unfairly.
The court told him to ask the high court for help instead.
They said this because another case about his father's arrest is already being looked at by the Delhi High Court.
The businessman and his family live in Uttarakhand and Delhi, and he said the police have been bothering them.
His father was also arrested and kept in a police station in Greater Noida for five days without being taken to a magistrate.
The Supreme Court closed the case but said Umang can still ask the high court for help.
The Supreme Court refused to hear a plea by Umang Rastogi against his alleged illegal arrest by Uttar Pradesh Police.
The court directed Rastogi to approach the high court for relief, as a similar case regarding his father's arrest is pending in the Delhi High Court.
Rastogi's counsel claimed that the arrest was made out of vengeance and in violation of fundamental rights.
Rastogi's father was allegedly arrested from Delhi and detained at Bisrakh police station in Greater Noida without being produced before a magistrate for five days.
The Supreme Court disposed of the matter but granted Rastogi the liberty to approach the appropriate court for relief.
