India’s ENRICH Prosthetic Hand Targets Affordable EMG-Controlled Mobility

India’s ENRICH Prosthetic Hand Targets Affordable EMG-Controlled Mobility

ENRICH is a new artificial hand designed for people who have lost an upper limb.

It was developed in India at IIT Delhi’s IHFC.

The hand listens to electrical signals from a person’s muscles using one EMG channel.

These signals help the user control different grasping movements.

It can begin a grasp in about 251 milliseconds.

The hand weighs 450 grams and has 14 movable functions.

Its battery can run for up to eight hours and takes about three hours to charge.

The adjustable socket is intended to improve comfort and fit.

If it is commercialized, it may cost much less than many prosthetic hands currently available in India.
