Calcutta Honors European Theatre with Modern Productions
In Calcutta, two plays were made about important people in European theater.
One play was about two famous actors from the past, Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonora Duse, and the other was about Anton Chekhov and his wife.
The first play used actors from a modern acting class.
The second play had a big, complex stage and included some of Chekhov's short stories.
Both plays aimed to bring European theater history to life.
Two full-length productions in Calcutta were inspired by European dramaturgy.
One play, "Natak Shuru Hachchhe", examined the rivalry between Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonora Duse.
Another play, "Hey Sindhusaras", charted Anton Chekhov's relationship with Olga Knipper.
The actors in "Natak Shuru Hachchhe" were from a Modern Acting Course.
"Hey Sindhusaras" featured a large, multi-layered set and incorporated Chekhov's short stories.
