Karnataka HC Orders Reconsideration of Covid Compensation Claim
A woman named Manjushree has been fighting for five years to get compensation after her husband, Babu, died from Covid-19 while working as a nodal officer at a health center in Bengaluru.
The government initially rejected her claim, saying her husband wasn't directly treating Covid patients.
But the Karnataka High Court has now ordered the authorities to reconsider her claim.
Manjushree argues that her husband was exposed to Covid risks in his role and should be covered under the insurance scheme for health workers.
The court agreed that the nature of his appointment doesn't matter and that the government should pay the compensation.
Manjushree, who now works as a helper to support her family, hopes this will lead to a positive outcome.
Karnataka High Court directs GBA to reconsider Manjushree's claim for Rs 50 lakh compensation for her husband's Covid-19 death.
Manjushree argues her husband, Babu V, was a 'Covid warrior' and should be covered under the insurance scheme.
Authorities rejected the claim stating Babu was not directly treating Covid-19 patients.
Court observes that the nature of Babu's appointment is immaterial and he should be compensated.
Manjushree has been working as a contractual helper to support her nine-year-old son and in-laws.
