DU Teachers Oppose Aadhaar-Based Attendance System
The University of Delhi (DU) has decided to make Aadhaar-based biometric attendance mandatory for teachers.
If teachers don't follow this rule, their salaries might not be processed from January 2026.
The teachers' association, AADTA, is very upset about this.
They say that earlier, they were told this idea was dropped.
They also think this new rule ignores the different kinds of work teachers do, like teaching, research, and exams.
The association is worried that this will make teachers' jobs even harder and take away their freedom to manage their work.
They want DU to take back this rule and talk about any changes with the teachers first.
DU mandates Aadhaar-based biometric attendance for teachers, linking it to salary disbursement.
AADTA objects, citing earlier assurances that the proposal was dropped and arguing it violates academic autonomy.
Teachers claim the system ignores diverse academic responsibilities and increases workload.
AADTA demands withdrawal of the notification and statutory body discussions on any changes to service conditions.
DU refers to colleges as 'units', which AADTA argues erodes institutional autonomy.
