Opposition Walks Out Over Rebel TMC MPs
Before the Monsoon Session of Parliament, an all-party meeting was held in New Delhi.
The opposition parties, known as the INDIA bloc, walked out of the meeting.
They were upset because the government invited some MPs who recently left the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and joined a new group called the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).
The opposition says these MPs should not have been invited because there are still legal questions about their split from the TMC.
The government, however, went ahead with the meeting and urged all parties to work together for a smooth Parliament session.
The walkout shows the tension between the opposition and the government over this issue.
INDIA bloc parties walked out of an all-party meeting protesting the Centre's invitation to rebel TMC MPs as NCPI representatives.
The meeting, convened by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, aimed to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament during the Monsoon Session.
Opposition leaders objected to the seating arrangement and participation of the rebel MPs, led by Sudip Bandyopadhyay.
The Centre invited the rebel MPs after Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted their request for separate seating, seen as formal recognition of the split.
Opposition parties alleged the move was politically motivated and accused the government of interfering in the internal affairs of an opposition party.
