PM Internship Scheme Sees Low Enrollment Despite Offers
The government started a program to help young people get internships at big companies.
The plan was to offer 1.25 lakh internships in the first year.
However, the program isn't going as planned.
Even though a third of the students got internship offers, only a small number of them actually started working at those companies.
The government wants to provide many more internships over the next few years.
The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) aimed to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in its pilot project.
The pilot project of PMIS was launched on October 3, 2024.
The scheme's goal is to offer internship opportunities to one crore youth within five years.
Only 6% of students joined companies under the PMIS, despite a 33% offer acceptance rate.
