Mizoram seeks disaster tag for African Swine Fever
Mizoram, a state in India, has asked the central government for special help because of a disease called African Swine Fever that has killed many pigs and caused big financial problems.
The state wants this disease to be officially recognized as a disaster so that farmers can get more money to help them.
The state government also talked about other problems like landslides and earthquakes and asked for money to fix these issues.
They said that over the past five years, disasters like cyclones, floods, and rodent infestations have caused a lot of damage and economic loss, and they need a lot of money to recover.
Mizoram seeks a notified disaster tag for African Swine Fever to improve compensation for affected pig farmers.
The state suffered a financial loss of Rs 114.64 crore in 2025 due to the outbreak.
9,711 pigs died and 3,620 were culled to prevent the spread of the disease.
