Congress MLA Withdraws Controversial Rape Theory Remarks

A Congress MLA from Madhya Pradesh, Phool Singh Baraiya, made some very controversial remarks about why women from certain communities are raped.

He said it was because of what some religious scriptures say and that seeing beautiful girls can distract the mind leading to rape.

But after many people got very angry and criticized him, he said he didn't really mean it.

He said he was just quoting someone else and didn't agree with those ideas.

Both his own party, the Congress, and the BJP criticized him for saying such things.

Digvijaya Singh, a senior Congress leader, defended Baraiya, saying the remarks were quoted from a book by a professor, not Baraiya's personal views.

The BJP, however, criticized the remarks, alleging they reflect a broader pattern of insulting Hindus and women.
